Think of it this way: This pandemic is a bad car accident on the highway. People slow down to look at it, even from the other side of the highway. Everyone hates it, even though everyone does it.
There’s different people suffering in a highway pile up. Of course, there’s the people in the car accident that are the worst off. Those are your elderly, those with vulnerable health conditions, those without insurance. Then there are those piled up on highway before the accident. They are stuck in traffic. Those are people that will get deathly sick but survive the virus.
Then there is everyone else who is looking at the accident from the other side and causing a traffic jam behind them. These are people that will get mild to moderate symptoms, or not contract the virus at all. The accident might not affect them, but they’re causing a lot of pain for everyone behind them. It’s the same when people ignore the government’s guidelines even when they know they shouldn’t.
So the government makes the median barrier higher so that you can’t see the other side of the highway. Sometimes that’s what they gotta do. Not because they are trying to take away people’s rights, but because people are turds. That’s what shelter in place is. It’s cuz people are turds.
